TOM PREMO (NGUYÊN MINH TÂM) is an American who worked in Vietnam on DOD & USAID Contracts (1966-73) and now lives in Go Cong, Tien Giang, Vietnam six months each year (Nov-Apr) and in Walnut Creek, Contra Costa County, California USA (May-Oct). During the six months, (Nov-Apr) he lives in his Vietnam home, the "Whitehouse East", in Thi Xa (Town) Go Cong, Xa (Village)LongHoa-Phuong 5.

Catania, ITALY – 23 Oct 2011
A spectacular eruption is going on the Mount Etna volcano. It is the seventeenth time this year since the new south-eastern crater started being active. At 8,30 p.m. local time lava flows as high as hundreds of meters could be seen from the Ionic coast. According to the Italian national institute of geophysics and volcanology, the crater’s activity started forty minutes earlier, when the ash cloud was carried by a moderate wind. The ash cloud caused the airport in Catania to close. The earthquake in Turkey also occurred on 23th Oct but geologists deny correlation.

This morning I woke up excited about all the things I have to do before the clock strikes midnight.
I have responsibilities to fulfill today ... I am important.
My job is to choose what kind of day I will have.
Today I can complain because the day is rainy ... or I can thank God because the plants are being watered for free.
Today I can feel sad because I have no money ... or I can be glad that my finances are pushing me to plan my purchases wisely.
Today I can grumble about my health ... or I can rejoice that I am alive.
Today I can lament all that my parents gave me while I was growing ... or I can feel grateful that I allowed to be born.
Today I can mourn because roses have thorns ... or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.
Today I can self-pity for not having many friends ... or I can get excited and then embark on the adventure of discovering new relationships.
Today I can complain because I have to go to work ... or I can shout for joy because I have a job.
Today I can complain because I have to go to school ... or I can open my mind and fill it with strongly rich new knowledge.
Today I can grumble bitterly because I have to do housework ... or I can feel honored because I have a roof over my mind, body and soul.
